Server Administrator

Basic Function:
The qualified applicant will administer and oversee operations of specific servers and
software within the company's LAN network.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Set up, install, and manage network links, hardware, peripheral components,
software and updates. Establish and maintain directory network of users.
Maintain network documentation on hardware/software. Provide primary support
for servers identified by the Network Manager.

Monitor network servers for growth and usage trends. Perform long-term capacity planning.

Recommend, install, test and manage existing and new servers and software.

Diagnose system hardware, software, and operator problems; recommend or perform
remedial action.

Perform, oversee, monitor and ensure data security including; regular backups,
recovery, verification of security rights and other steps necessary to ensure
data integrity.

Collaborate with Systems Security team to monitor, perform, oversee and test
regular and timely operating system patches, security patches and other
patches/updates as necessary. Develop procedures as necessary.

Collaborate with other Network staff to create, test, and keep up to date disaster
recovery procedures for all LAN services deemed necessary.

Collaborate with AS/400 Operations to ensure system integration and reliability.

Assist the Network Manager in project definition, requirements documentation
and technical writing to support information systems business growth.

Provide off-hour support as it relates to the Network, as needed.
Candidates for this position must possess the following:
-
A minimum of 3 years relevant system administration experience;

Strong hands-on technical knowledge of network operating systems (Windows
Server 2000/2003), Active Directory, Veritas Backup Exec, Microsoft's Automated
Deployment Services (ADS), network monitoring tools and practices is essential.;

Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles,
and general network best practices;

Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills;
-
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;

Highly self motivated and directed;

Good planning, organizational, and time/project management skills;

Knowledge and experience in a number of the following areas is a plus:
Virtual Tape Library (VTL) technology, Storage Area Network (SAN) technology,
VMware, Blackberry, SQL, Layer 2-3 network switching, and VoIP.
