Server Administrator

We are a team of dedicated property/casualty insurance professionals working together to service the needs of our policy holders and agents. Basic Function:
The qualified applicant will administer and oversee operations of specific servers and software within the company's LAN network.

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Set up, install, and manage network links, hardware, peripheral components, software and updates. Establish and maintain directory network of users. Maintain network documentation on hardware/software. Provide primary support for servers identified by the Network Manager.
  • Monitor network servers for growth and usage trends. Perform long-term capacity planning.
  • Recommend, install, test and manage existing and new servers and software.
  • Diagnose system hardware, software, and operator problems; recommend or perform remedial action.
  • Perform, oversee, monitor and ensure data security including; regular backups, recovery, verification of security rights and other steps necessary to ensure data integrity.
  • Collaborate with Systems Security team to monitor, perform, oversee and test regular and timely operating system patches, security patches and other patches/updates as necessary. Develop procedures as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other Network staff to create, test, and keep up to date disaster recovery procedures for all LAN services deemed necessary.
  • Collaborate with AS/400 Operations to ensure system integration and reliability.
  • Assist the Network Manager in project definition, requirements documentation and technical writing to support information systems business growth.
  • Provide off-hour support as it relates to the Network, as needed.
Candidates for this position must possess the following:
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant system administration experience;
  • Strong hands-on technical knowledge of network operating systems (Windows Server 2000/2003), Active Directory, Veritas Backup Exec, Microsoft's Automated Deployment Services (ADS), network monitoring tools and practices is essential.;
  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network best practices;
  • Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Highly self motivated and directed;
  • Good planning, organizational, and time/project management skills;
  • Knowledge and experience in a number of the following areas is a plus: Virtual Tape Library (VTL) technology, Storage Area Network (SAN) technology, VMware, Blackberry, SQL, Layer 2-3 network switching, and VoIP.
